Paraffin wax is a soft, solid, white or colorless wax. It is composed of saturated hydrocarbons. The chemical formula of paraffin wax is generalized as CnH2n+2. It consists of a mixture of hydrocarbon molecules containing between 20 and 40 carbon atoms. German chemist Karl Reichenbach discovered paraffin wax in 1830. This wax was produced by crackingย mineral oil.
Crude oil is the most important source of paraffin wax. Oil refineries produce two main categories of products from crude oil: fuels and lubricants. In the production of lubricants, refineries use atmospheric distillation residues as a raw material and process them until the final lubricant product is made. The by-product of this process is called SLACK WAX, which is the raw material for the production of paraffin wax to produce paraffin wax.
Slackย Waxย is generally a mixture of paraffin wax and oil, which can contain up to 40% oil, depending on the origin of the materials.
Another and most advanced process for their manufacture is the conversion of natural gas, gasified coal, and biomass into synthetic fuels. The commercial processing of shell wax has proven to be more cost-effective compared to converting natural gas to paraffin wax. However, recent changes in the oil and gas industry and environmental concerns have shifted the perspective of their manufacturers towards the use of advanced manufacturing processes and the use of natural gas as a feedstock.
Paraffin wax uses:
The most common use of this product is in making candles.
Paraffin wax is used to produce warmers and various types of candles with different qualities and grades of oils. Paraffin wax also has other uses, such as a thickening agent in ointments or an anti-inflammatory cream for the skin.
This material is used in thermal printers to make ink.
Paraffin wax is used in the manufacture of electrical products such as transformers and inductors, and is often used as a lubricant, electrical insulator, and to make candles and crayons. The advantages of using paraffin wax in electrical devices include preventing moisture from entering them, eliminating noise from them, and limiting microphonic effects. This product is used in histology and pathology laboratories. In pathology, tissue is placed in paraffin wax before cutting so that it is not damaged.
It is also used as a tablet and capsule coating.

The difference is in the oil content. The oil content of fully refined paraffin wax is lower than that of semi-refined paraffin wax.
Fully refined paraffin wax is water-free, odorless, and has a solid structure that cannot be easily changed.
